HOT TOPICS THIS WEEK
Smirting
Smirting in the UK
The smoking ban in England has seen a new type of romantic encounters, Smirting, among the young and trendies. Smokers who are banned to take a puff indoors now combine "smoking" with "flirting" at the forecourts of pubs and bars. Are you one of the die-hard smokers who just can't quit? Are you one of the practitioners of Smirting? And for the Restaurateurs, do you notice any Smirting among your diners?
Taxi War in Hong Kong
Hong Kong Airport road traffic came to a halt this week with the Taxi drivers' dispute. Official licensed taxis are unhappy with the new 20% discount service offered by rivalry drivers. Do you think the taxi fares in Hong Kong are too high? How do you usually travel to the airport in Hong Kong? Do you have any special stories to tell about taking taxis?
When Leo meet Katie
Harry Potter fever is now spreading to the Hong Kong Music scene. Katie Leung who gave Harry Potter his first kiss on screen will be starring in pop idol Leo Ku's next music video "Love coming home". Did you catch Leo and Katie while they were on the shot in London? Have you any famous encounters to share with us?
Beijing Cleans up for the Olympics
With the 2008 Olympics counting down to just under a year, Beijing is cleaning up for the events. The government hopes to rid the locals of bad habits such as swearing, spiting and littering. Do you have any bad habits you know should stop? What about Chinatown in London? What should be done to make it more attractive?
Send us your COMMENTS through this page during the programme (Sunday 6-7pm) and we will read it out LIVE ON AIR. You can share your views instantly with up to 300,000 listeners from the Chinese Community.

I think Chinese people have as many bad habits as people any other countries. It is quite refreshing for the government to lead this initiate to improve the social quality for the Olympics.

I think the worst habit of us Chinese people is talking too loud in public places without any regards of other people. The football louts might be annoying when they get drunk, but we go into automatic mode and talk loudly when more than one Chinese gathered.
July 29th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
I think it is never OK to swear or spit or throw rubbish no matter you are Chinese or English, in Olympic time or in normal time. I feel really disgusted when i see footballers spit on the pitch. Give me nightmares!!!

Hi guys, just want to say Hi to all my friends, especially Timmy and Chee who is going back to Hong Kong on Tuesday. I wish them a great time on their holiday. I will be stuck here this summer, so will be listening to you guys all the time. Please play more song by Edison Chan. If he comes to London I would love to go and see him for autograph.

Hi Spectrum Radio DJs, please play a Andy Lau song for my friend Catherine Tan from Singapore. She is visiting us for a week and we want to wish her a happy holiday and have a good time when she visits Europe next week. From Jacky, Sister Lynn, Mrs Wang, and Selina
Thank you

The worst is when they wiped their noise with their fingers then wiped their hands on the wall. Urgh!!
July 29th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
I think every country has dirty habits. In England we issue lot of ASBO to people like that. Even in Hong Kong, it takes many years to clean up the litter bugs. I hope the Beijing Olympics will be a great success, as Chinese myself, although I am overseas, I will feel proud to see China hosting such a prestigious event too. Also can you dedicate a song to my OLDER sister Jane who will be 16 tomorrow. Please say Happy Birthday to her from all the family. Thanks

I am a victim of smirting. I don't smoke but I have the misfortune of waiting for my friends outside a pub last week and this guy just came over with a cigarette and start chatting to me. I tried to be polite but he just assumes I want to carry on talking to him. I only escaped after my friends arrived. I think smirting is just a bad excuse for unsavoury men to chat up girls who they would otherwise not dare to. Please say hi to Susie, Dan, Kenny and Big Eyes and tell them not to be late again next time!!!

Hong Kong taxi is not expensive at all. Have you try to take a taxi here from the airport? I lost a wallet in Hong Kong last year on the Taxi and it was return to me the next day. And most drivers are very decent these days after the SARS. If you suspect they take a longer route you can call the police.

I love Leo Koo and would be more than happy to star in his MV.
His new song 愛回家is really good. I hope it will get to Number One soon. I am also a fan of Harry Potter so it's cool to see Katie in the MV. I really want to meet all the Hong Kong singers but they are so far away. I hope I can see them in real person when I visit Hong Kong next summer. My list of people to see are: Leo Koo, Alex Fong, and Ng Chuk Hei

I am a smoker myself so this Smirting thing is really good for me. When I meet people outside pubs for a smoke, I feel a comradely spirit among us and it is easy to start a conversation. If it lead to romance all the better, if not it would be nice to share our stories of being victimised after the smoking ban.
July 29th, 2007 at 5:36 pm
Please stop all these Chinese bashing. English spits as much as the Chinese, and the Scots and the American etc.
July 29th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

I would like to meet the new Miss Hong Kong and see if she is as ugly in real person as the press has suggested. LOL
July 29th, 2007 at 6:07 pm

July 29th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
July 29th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
Hong Kong is so expensive. I will vote for cheaper Taxi for sure. Thought it is a free market so why the government is trying to control the Taxi prices? I too had bad experience with Hong Kong Taxi, the driver was very rude and unhelpful. So I only take taxi in Hong Kong if I am with some local Chinese friends.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
July 29th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
July 29th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
I always get the airport bus, because it stops right outside my grandparents' flat. I wonder if the discount Taxi is only available for airport? When I visit Hong Kong I don't like to take taxi because I think they always take a longer route knowing I am a tourist. I prefer MTR because it is clean and always on time (unlike the tube in London
) It is interesting to see your Taxi price guide here. I might just print it here and bring it with me on my next visit to Hong Kong.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
I really dislike the swearing in Chinatown. When I am with my English friends and eat in Chinatown, some of the waiters find it funny to swear in English in front of us on purpose. It is really embarrassing.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
July 31st, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Great discussion. Chinese people has lot of bad habits, but we always excuse ourselves and say that is our traditions. We even teach English people to slurps when we drink soup, make lot of noises to show appreciation……
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:42 pm
I hope all the Chinese parents will take control of their kids. When I go to Hong Kong, I see so many parents let theirs kid run around, shouting, making mischief and don't tell them off.
August 3rd, 2007 at 9:26 pm
I think Leo ku is a good singer, but getting Katie Leung in his MV is a cheap gimmick. Is the new song any good?
August 4th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
I think the biggest thing they need to sort out in China for Olympics is to get rid of all the private and fraudulent goods. It is so embarassing to see people carrying all those false Prada and LV bags.
August 4th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Chinese people always think we are the best in the world, we invent the gunpowder, the compass etc.. Chinese also boast about always being humble
August 24th, 2007 at 3:16 am
Great points you raise here. I dont agree with everything you have written but overall nice writing style.
