十二月十八日，聯合國慶祝國際移民節，倫敦國際廣播電台與全球一百多個電台特別製作了一連串有關的專題節目。

當晚，華人節目《城市好時光》邀請了關注移民組織《倫敦公民》的林麗玲到節目中直播。

林麗玲希望英國政府給予無證勞工合法身分。二零零九年五月四日特拉法加廣場將會舉行大型集會活動，爭取更廣泛的支持。她又邀請聽眾一同為 "STRANGERS INTO CITIZENS " 大行動創作標語及口號，把這個重要的訊息傳揚開去。歡迎聽眾把標語及口號電郵至dj@558.net。

The Strangers into Citizens Campaign join Spectrum Radio to mark the United Nations backed International Migrants Day 2008.

The Day marks the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the 1990 ‘International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Families’. While the Convention has been ratified by 39 states and signed by a further 15, the UK Government is neither a signatory and hasn’t ratified the convention.

香港中樂團首次到英國巡迴演出，第一場音樂會在倫敦泰晤士河南岸享負盛名的皇家節日大廳（RoyalFestivalHall）舉行，有近2000名觀眾出席盛會。

香港中樂團此行的目標是向英國觀眾展示香港多姿多彩的文化及音樂傳統。中樂團選奏的曲目融滙了傳統及現代的元素，反映中國不同地區不同民族的特色。其中包括趙季平的《古槐尋根》：趙季平曾經為得獎電影《大紅燈籠高高掛》配樂。另亦包括香港作曲家羅永暉的《千章掃》，著名琵琶演奏家王梓靜作琵琶獨奏；民樂大師彭修文的《秦•兵馬俑》則為壓軸作品。
