2009年春節即將來臨,全英中國學生學者聯誼會 (CSSA-UK)表示：為了慶祝這團圓、喜慶、歡樂、祥和的和具有歷史意義的新春佳節，進一步活躍和丰富留英學生和學者的文化生活, 聯會計劃通過舉辦主題鮮明、內容丰富的春節晚會, 撫慰廣大留學人員的游子心、思鄉情。

聯會表示：春節晚會將會歌頌祖國母親的日益繁榮富強， 把聯會對祖國的關愛傳遍英倫三島。

香港中樂團首次到英國巡迴演出，第一場音樂會在倫敦泰晤士河南岸享負盛名的皇家節日大廳（RoyalFestivalHall）舉行，有近2000名觀眾出席盛會。

香港中樂團此行的目標是向英國觀眾展示香港多姿多彩的文化及音樂傳統。中樂團選奏的曲目融滙了傳統及現代的元素，反映中國不同地區不同民族的特色。其中包括趙季平的《古槐尋根》：趙季平曾經為得獎電影《大紅燈籠高高掛》配樂。另亦包括香港作曲家羅永暉的《千章掃》，著名琵琶演奏家王梓靜作琵琶獨奏；民樂大師彭修文的《秦•兵馬俑》則為壓軸作品。
